About Us

I'm Mindy, aka "Betty" for the purposes of this blog.  I am a school administrator by day, and mom of 2 teen-aged girls and 2 Portuguese Water Dogs by night.   I am wife to Jeff, a high-tech redneck all the time!  I blog at Min Thick and Thin as well as occasionally at H2O Dawg.

Blogging is new to me but dieting and weight struggles are not.  I have been on a diet since I was 12 and was told it would be good for me to lose my "baby fat."  The whole sordid story is on my MT&T blog.

I started my diet (this time) in earnest in March, 2010.  I lost a few pounds but when I went low-carb (Atkins) during the 2nd week of July, 2010, things started going much better.  I've lost a total of 19 pounds as of this writing.  I have at least that much more to lose, at LEAST.

One of my hobbies is reading blogs and listening to podcasts.  Early on in my search, I found Jimmy Moore at Livin' La Vida Low-Carb and from there heard interviews with Mark Sisson & Robb Wolf.  Robb's book is currently on my night table and it is the inspiration for Amy's and my 30-day journey.

Amy and I have never met in person - we formed our friendship through blogging and sharing our Body-for-Life episodes.  If I can teach her to Skype, we might even have a conversation some day (LOL)!

It's the age of technology which allows us to learn from people we have never met, and can read the ideas and opinions of so many!  So it is with that spirit that we blog here and hope you'll follow us and offer your input!  Follow me on twitter at minthickandthin and I can be contacted at minthickandthin at gmail dot com.

Well, I'm Wilma, AKA Amy in the rest of the blogging world.  I have a blog Super Healthy Kids where I spend most of my online time.  Mindy and I happened to cross paths during my stint with Body For Life, which I love, but have a good deal of trouble sticking with.  I am however still doing the weight lifting program from body for life and love that.

My diet and weight history is this:
  • High school: Always chunky (easy when I am only 5 feet tall)  Senior year got down to 105lbs, size 2 by working out three times per day (Aerobics before school, PE class, and cheerleading after school).  I ate almost entirely vegetarian, but crappy.  Captain Crunch for Breakfast, school roll for lunch, vegetable sandwich for dinner.  That was about all I ate.
  • 2nd year of college, in response to my parents splitting up, I ballooned to about 150 (which is huge on my small frame).
  • After a few years of feeling sorry for myself, got back to aerobics classes, dropped to about 132,where I stayed for 8 or 9 years.
  • Got married and got down to 115 after my second child.  Perfect place for me! Felt great, loved it.  Mostly vegetarian, lot's of cardio.
  • After third child, developed hypothyroid and topped out at 132 again.  After medication, got back to 125 where I have been for over  a year.  Would LOVE to see 115 lbs gain.  Abandoning vegetarianism as I've learned about the importance of protein.  Giving it a try cause I have nothing to lose...OK, 10lbs to lose. LOL
And yes, let's SKYPE Mindy!
